An oil platform is a large structure used for offshore drilling that shelters workers and the machinery needed to drill wells in the ocean floor for the extraction of oil and/or natural gas, processing the extracted fluids and taking the loaded ship, to the coast. Depending on the circumstances, the platform may be attached to the sea floor, may consist of an artificial island or may float.
Because it is a very sensitive structure, these platforms require a high degree of control, both of equipment and workers. Solutions based on RFID technology help day-to-day operations, enabling the identification of people and mobile assets, delimiting areas of risk, controlling the access of people, thus increasing the safety of workers on the platform. With RFID tags it is still possible to control goods like computers and drilling tools.
